FAQs

1. What is your class size?
Our class size is from 3 to 5 students.  We also have private tutoring services.
 
2. How can I pay?
Payment for courses can be made by check or in cash and must be received no later than two weeks before class. We also accept Paypal payment. You can send payment securely online by Paypal with our E-mail yangtzechinese@yahoo.com
 
 
3. I don’t know which course I should register?
It depends on your study target and expectations.  Please check our Course Descriptions and Course Schedules.  We provide various Chinese language courses and cultural activities with flexible schedules for individuals and companies. If you are not sure about your Chinese level, please take an on-line proficiency test on our website.  If you are still not sure which course you should take, you are welcome to fill out the form on our website, our course coordinator will assist you. 
 
4. Why study at the West Chester Chinese Language Center (WCLC)?
 
WCLC is one of the best Mandarin professional training centers in center city Philadelphia and in the surrounding suburban areas, as well as an on-line long distance learning center around the world.  It was founded to provide practical courses and efficient study programs in Mandarin or in Cantonese language, and to provide quality teaching service to individuals, companies, and organizations.  With various Chinese language courses and cultural activities with flexible schedules, we help our students to improve their skills of daily and commercial communication, as well as culture exchange.  Every learner has a different background and different learning methods but can achieve their study goals with our instruction format.  We also provide information about Chinese culture, customs and history, and in this way, it can make you feel more comfortable and confident in dealing with people and businesses in China.  Effective and practical materials and many kinds of teaching aids are provided to our students.  There are also periodical observations and evaluation appraisals for our teachers to ensure professionalism in our education department.
 
 
5. Where are you?
Our center is in Philadelphia.  There are a couple of options for students.  For one-on-one private tutoring lessons, it usually takes place at a location decided on by both student and tutor.  For group courses, they will held in our center.  For on-line lessons, students take their classes at home with our teachers by internet.
 
6. How do you offer training lessons to companies?
Our professional trainer will contact you directly and work with you to provide a suitable learning proposal.  Our programs can be tailored to fit specific requirements of your business.  Training programs and/or seminars can be held at your place of business.
 
7. How about your teacher staff?
Our teachers are highly qualified and experienced in teaching English speaking or Chinese speaking students.  We use the best teaching methods such as role-playing, language point and practice, substitution and extension practice, games and practice, mnemonics practice, and the use of multi-media. 
 
8. What are your teacher’s qualifications?
Our leading teachers are native Chinese teachers holding Chinese teaching degrees in China.  In addition, our teachers are located in Philadelphia have a Certificate from the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages on teaching Chinese.  Our teachers are all from China who are experts in their field with teaching experiences.
 
9. What teaching methodology do you use in class?
WCLC choose the most practical and effective materials and methods for our students.  Efficient teaching methodologies such as role-playing, language point and practice, substitution and extension practice, games and practice, mnemonics practice, and the use of multi-media are used.  Our interactive teaching methods provide for a relaxing and interesting learning environment to help our students achieve their study aim in easy way.  Our teachers will give a quiz at the beginning of each class and exams and study evaluation reports for every student who has studied 20 and 40 hours lessons, in order to check on their learning progress.  In addition, students are encourage to practice speaking with their teacher who is in China by Skype after each class in Philadelphia. 
 
10. What kinds of courses are there at the WCLC?
There are long term/semester/year classes, short-term/summer/two weeks intensive class, after school programs, summer camp, HSK exam preparation, and training programs for companies.  Courses include General Chinese Courses, Business Courses, Chinese Characters Courses, Listening, Speaking and Reading Chinese Course, Culture Courses, etc.  Students are from age 3 and up.
 
11. What kinds of Classes are there in WCLC?
There are intensive classes, private classes, group classes, training Classes for corporate customers, summer camp, and on-line tutoring classes. 
 
12. What types of students are there in WCLC?
There are English speaking students and Chinese speaking students.  Courses are designed for different student ages to help them achieve different learning targets.  These courses are suitable for adults, professionals, juniors and kindergarten. 
 
13. Must You Learn Chinese Characters?
Not really.  Pinyin(Chinese phonetic notations) is for communication, and Chinese Characters are for reading and writing.  You could choose only learn how to speak Chinese by Pinyin.
 
14. How can you know what your Chinese Level is?
You could take a on-line proficiency test on our website.  After your registration, our teacher will test you again in grammar and oral speaking to place you into the appropriate level.
 
15. What about time and location for classes?
It depends on what is convenient for you and can be adjusted according to your schedule.  You can choose the location for class: our center, our tutor’s place, your company, your home, or coffee bar.
 
16. What are Chinese Culture Activities?
We provide various Chinese Culture Activities for you such as a Chinese speaking,
Dim Sum party, Lantern Festival, Stage drama show, Social dinner Party, Trip to Chinatown, Social gatherings, Martial Arts, Chinese game nights, Moon Cake party, Chinese movie nights, Chinese chess, Reading nights, Calligraphy etc.
17. How can I get the information for the Chinese Culture Activities?
WCLC will inform you on the availability of the activity one week in advance by e-mail.
 
 
18. What is the best way to contact you?
If you have any questions, please E-mail to us.  Our people will contact you for details. We can answer your questions for registration and information every Friday 2:30pm ~ 8:30pm.
 
19. I am a student living in another country, how can I take a class from you?
We are running distance classes by Skype.  Our students from different countries say that they can hear us clearly during class.  It is free only from Skype to Skype.  Skype is a great tool for distant learning because it has a writing board and other functions.
